"I’ve got a coffee mug and a bowl from this lovely shop and enjoy them so much, practically every day! Would love to get more things here in the future, amazing quality. Would love to attend their workshops as well, overall such a charming place and both Jackie and Ricky certainly very talented and wonderful people!"

"I had a private lesson at Turn & Fire with Jackie, and it was such a wonderful experience. She taught me how to make a mug and walked me through every step of the process, from throwing on the wheel to glazing. Her instructions were clear and detailed, and she was incredibly patient and encouraging the whole time. She stepped in when I needed help and made sure I felt confident as I worked.

Now, every time I use my mug, I think of her and the fun memories of that day. Turn & Fire itself is absolutely charming. The shop is full of beautiful, handmade pieces that make perfect gifts. You can really feel the love and care that goes into everything.

I can’t wait to go back and learn even more!"

"What an amazing day at a great location that was equipped with a brilliant workshop and facilities enabling me unfettered enjoyment of my first wood turning experience. The guidance and tutoring from Richard on how to use the tools was first class with a perfect balance between demonstration and (my) hands on. I’m really pleased with my created keepsakes and can’t rate the day high enough. If in doubt, book it, have a go, you’ll not regret it."

Noel McKinney

"Jackie and Rick are two amazing and talented individuals. They have a passion for their crafts and love to share it with others. This is a must visit store when in the area!

If you have a chance try out one of their workshops! I just did the wild firing workshop and couldn’t be anymore pleased with the experience and good company. I didn’t want the day to end 😭💚"

"I went to see Richard for a woodturning course and it was brilliant. He's a great teacher and makes the whole day feel laid back and gives you time to really get to grips with it. Calm, friendly, informed and great tuition. I made a bowl and a candle holder. I'll get practicing and go back for more. Thanks!"

"Before Christmas I visited the shop and was really impressed by the quality of the wood and ceramic products. Keen to try my hand at wood turning I signed up for one of Richard's workshops. What a fantastic day and unbelievable value. I had one to one tuition from 10 to 4 (and beyond) from Richard a retired teaching professional and boy it showed. With his expert guidance I was able to produce what I think are a very nice shaving brush in Ash and a Beech bowl, which I was able to take away inclusive in the cost of the day. Add to that copious supplies of tea/coffee, some homemade cake and some very convivial conversation. A perfect day."

"Jackie and Ricky are wonderfully talented people with a passion for teaching, learning and sharing their love for what they do. I’ve recently been to a workshop run by them and I didn’t want the day to end! It was wonderful to meet new people whilst learning all about Raku, it was a hands on experience that I won’t easily forget. We enjoyed a delicious vegan lunch in their beautiful garden and could pick our own apples to take home. I love my pots that I came away with and want to go back again really soon. Thank you!"

"What a wonderful time I had learning and making a lino print. The day was really nicely paced and focused on experimenting. Rose was very patient and encouraging. It was a very relaxed day. If I did it again (and I probably will) I would do more research in advance. I have since found myself down many rabbit holes looking at lino printers on Instagram. Such beautiful possibilities. Inspired! Thanks Rose"

"Highly recommend. I just did a day one to one wood turning class with Richard which I received as a Christmas gift. Absolutely loved it. Set in a beautiful gem of a studio. I have only done a little bit of whittling and not used any kind of power tools ,since school so I was a bit apprehensive to start but Richard was an incredibly calm, patient and knowledgeable teacher. Managed to make a bowl and a candlestick in ash."

"My wife's birthday gift to me this year was a day's wood-turning workshop with Turn and Fire in Hurstpierpoint. I attended the one-to-one workshop yesterday.

Under the expert and patient guidance of Richard I learnt how to turn wood both with and across the grain in his well-equipped workshop. Despite having no previous experience and no longer being in the first flush of youth, I was able to create a shaving brush and decorative wooden bowl. I am both surprised and pleased with the results. Other members of my family refuse to believe that I produced them both myself!

The day was made even more enjoyable by Richard's excellent hospitality which included a delicious light lunch and very tasty apple cake for tea.

All in all an enjoyable and memorable day and I highly recommend the experience."

"I had a fantastic one-to-one wood turning day with Richard. He’s a patient and inspiring teacher who makes learning feel easy and enjoyable. I came away with a small decorative bowl and pen I’d turned and a real appreciation for the craft. Highly recommended. The lunch and afternoon cake were delicious too!"
